Puerto Princesa Underground River, Philippines - Kathreena Tejada

My Watermark is Puerto Princesa Underground River, Philippines.

As a 7-year-old child, I remember going to the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, also known as the Puerto Princesa Underground River. This is an extremely popular tourist attraction, however, locals frequent the Underground River as well. The river is about 8 km long, and as stated in its name, is underground. I remember basking in the cavern’s beautiful features, especially its rock formations. I found it amazing how something so natural could be more astonishing than man-made structures. The water was a blue-green colour and I have not seen that colour of water anywhere else.

I was (and still am) constantly reminded by my parents how scarce water is and that we should try our best to conserve it. This would mean turning off the tap when it is not being used, for example. As for drinking water, my family buys jugs of 5 gallons of filtered water. I keep my water in a reusable water bottle to avoid using plastic bottles. It is important to remember that water is a resource we should not take for granted.
